Sunday 30th April - May Fayre, Procession and Dragon Celebration
From 10:30am until 5pm we will be holding a May Fayre by the Abbot's Kitchen within the Abbey grounds. This will be free to enter via the gate on Magdalene street. Within you will find stalls selling a variety of Beltane and Dragon themed items, plus much more.
A stage can also be found in this area, the timetable of which is as follows:
10:30am -3:20pm - A large selection of local musicians and talent.
3:20pm - 3:50pm - Morris Dancing by the Glastonbury Morris Dancers
3:50pm - 4:10pm - Pentacle Drummers
4:10pm - 4:30pm - Avalonian Free State Choir
4:30pm - 4:50pm - Yukes of Avalon
4:50pm - 5:10pm - The Dragon Dummers
5:10pm - 5:30pm - The GDC Team's Mummers Play.
From noon, outside St John's church there will be various musicians and morris dancing.
Just before 1:30pm at the front of St Dunstan's house, next to the Town Hall, the Town Crier will give a proclomation about the days events. Things will then kick off there starting with the Pentacle Drummers at 1:30pm.
At 1:50pm our ritual theatre will kick off with a goodbye from Gwyn and a hello to Gwythyr, our Summer King.
At 2pm, the dragons will arrive and begin their procession through the town, up to the Fairfield. They will be accompanied by our Summer King and Queen, the Dragon Drummers will guide them and the Pentacle Drummers will be providing a rearguard.
Once on the Fairfield, a little before 3pm, our ritual theatre shall continue and conclude with a blessing of the people.
Once it is over we encourage everyone to head down to the Abbot's kitchen to enjoy the rest of the music that will be going on there and to end their day with a laugh by watching the Mummers Play.
Sunday's celebration is completely free of charge.
There are other events happening in town throughout the weekend and also on May 1st, including Glastonbury's tradition of taking the May Pole up to Bushy Coombe for the hand fasting of the May King and Queen. Do come on down and enjoy everything that our marvellous town has to offer.
*All proceeds from the Dragons events will go towards putting on the next Glastonbury Dragon's Celebrations event. Everyone involved in putting on these events is a volunteer and we do not make any money off of them.
